OUR WEBSITE IS
CURRENTLY UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Although guide dogs have aided persons who are blind for more than 85 years, recognizing the many other ways in which assistance animals can help persons with disabilities is a relatively recent phenomenon. Assistance animal organizations have scrambled to keep up with the need for training standards, which are the basis for the legislation that allows the animals to accompany persons with disabilities into public places such as shopping malls, entertainment venues, government offices and on public transit.
WE are ASIST / ASSISTER, a new not-for-profit organization that, in its founding board of directors, encompasses extensive knowledge of animal training and behaviour, the world of disabilities, and an understanding of standards – three elements essential for a successful assistance animal training program.
Our training personnel are qualified to evaluate and certify assistance animal teams, which will allow the team's human partner to continue to contribute to, and be a part of society. Although we are a young organization, we are ready to begin work immediately to help military personnel with mobility and psychiatric disabilities return to their lives.
